Mountains of the Moon 2021
With great pleasure, we introduce our Mountains of the Moon 100gram ripe pu’er cake.
A tea-riffic blend of leaves picked and ripened in 2011 and 2020, this one will make feel out of this world!
Rather than a blend of both larger and smaller leaves, this ripe tea is composed of all mid-sized leaves. This makes it perfect for those who love to brew tea in longer infusions, but still works well in gong fu style brewing. You'll find the brewed liquor of this tea to be very clear and deep red. The flavor earthy, smooth, sweet in shorter steeps. In longer infusions, prepare for lift-off as the power of the leaf is capable of catapulting you to the moon. Plenty of woody notes alongside hints of berries, chocolate, black licorice. There is no post-fermentation funk with this tea, just good old-fashioned ripe pu’er, sure to please.
Half of these leaves were picked and processed in 2011 from an area (Lincang) visited in 2012 and were impressed with the fresh, clean air and lack of cities and traffic. We got a flat tire not far from where this tea was stored for the last eight years and had one of the best meals ever while we waited for a repair.
The balance of the blend is from the Mengku area and just like the Lincang area leaves, this was grown on a spray-free tea farm from trees that are now over 80 years old.
These cakes were steamed and pressed on 6/27/2021.
